About Us

Spring 2008

Dear Friends,

My husband Bruce and I began homeschooling our six children more than 25 years ago. Our five oldest children have graduated from homeschooling, and we are currently teaching our youngest son at home. Here is a brief overview of what we are up to now.

Our oldest daughter Michelle is married to Victor and they have three boys: Justin, Anthony, and Dominic. Michelle owns a company in Tampa, Florida specializing in full service event production—weddings, parties, and other functions. Her husband Victor is the senior armorer at the Embassy in Baghdad.

Our next daughter Melissa holds a Master’s Degree in English and American Literature from the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. She is currently teaching English in South Korea. Our oldest son Robert is an Arabic linguist in the United States Marine Corps. He is currently in the Middle East. He is scheduled to resume his Arabic studies at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California this summer.

Our next son Raymond is a senior at Florida State University in Tallahassee where he is completing a degree in Civil Engineering. Our third daughter Mandy is studying at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. She plans to major in History and minor in English—or vice-versa! Our third son Randall is finishing his freshman year of homeschool high school. He will be attending the High Tech Kids FIRST LEGO League International Open, a robotics competition, in Minneapolis with his team this May.

Bruce and I ventured back into the world of college a couple of years ago. Bruce will graduate in May with a degree in American Studies with a Law and Government Concentration from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. He plans to attend law school this fall. I am scheduled to complete my degree in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Literature from Eckerd College this fall. I hope to go on to obtain a Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults.

We believe that education lasts a lifetime—and as you can see, we live by that principle! Remember to have fun living and learning with your children.

Blessings,

Valerie Bendt
